Those Annoying Facts

Jehovahs Witnesses are getting all excited (again) because the world appears to be turning to crap.  IS are killing people, Britain is leaving the European Union, America has voted to elect an idiot as leader of the free world and beards are in fashion.

They look at these situations (other than beards or course) and come up with the conclusion that this is all in fulfilment of bible prophesy and Armageddon must be imminent.  However what they fail to remember is the world has been a far scarier, far more dangerous and far more violent place in the past.  Millions died during World War 1 and they were convinced that it would herald Armageddon - it didn't. World War 2 came and went with millions more dying, this time many of the dead were civilians being bombed in their homes and murdered in concentration camps.  It still didn't preceded Gods war.

In the sixties, seventies and early eighties we went through the Cold War, a period in history where we were all just moments away from a nuclear holocaust and all the while JW's were telling us this was the precursor to the great tribulation and Armageddon was just around the corner.

Today we don't have Nazi's but we have ISIS, a vile, murderous political organisation masquerading as a religion.  We don't have world wars, though we have localised conflicts.  When disasters strike the world, with the significant help of social media, comes together to donate funds, supplies and professional help.  Of course the world is not perfect but how many times in the last twelve months have you seen social media used to shame bullies, raise money for those in desperate need or provide moral support for those facing personal battles?

Witnesses choose to ignore these 'annoying' facts because they don't tally with their dark, ugly, poisoned view of the world.

If you get the chance check out an American Scientist called Bill Nye.  He makes some interesting observations about Creationism and the bible story of Noah's Ark.  He doesn't target JW's directly but what he shows are a series of undeniable scientific facts that disprove completely the bibles accounts of both events.

For instance the Bible says that the biblical flood covered the highest peak. In Genesis 15 it says, “The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered.” According to the United States’ Geological Survey, there is 332,500,000 cubic miles of water on Earth. The highest mountain is Mt. Everest at 29,029 feet above sea level. The surface area of the Earth is 196.9 million square miles. To increase the amount of water to cover the top of Everest would take approximately 600,000,000 cubic miles of water which is nearly twice the volume of water on our planet now.

At 23,000 feet, the Earth is so cold that it would freeze any water at that altitude and the air is so thin it becomes what mountain climbers call ‘the death zone’ where altitude sickness kills with regularity in a matter of hours... yet according to the bible Noah and seven others sailed on the Ark at this height without freezing to death, without any reference to altitude sickness and between the eight of them they kept at least 14,000 animals alive for weeks (7000 species with both a male and a female).

These are facts yet JW's choose to ignore them because to admit them is to cast doubt on the bible - yet IGNORING THEM DOES NOT MAKE THEM GO AWAY.

Witnesses teach that Noah's Ark ended up somewhere in the Middle East.  Clearly the story conveys the idea that the flood killed all living things on the planet, except creatures that live in water and the people and animals in the Ark.  So somehow all the creatures that were released from the Ark made their way across the planet.  If this were true why have Kangaroo fossils never been found anywhere but Australia?  In fact why are bones and fossils from animals indigenous to specific parts of the world never found in the Middle East or radiating outwards from it?

JW's have no reasonable explanations to these facts so they ignore them.  I have used this next line before but I don't apologise for repeating it;  Science starts with the premise that they don't know the answer so they will follow the facts.  

JW's start with the premise that they already know the answers they just need to make the facts fit.
