The God of Murder
I listened to a BBC radio program the other day about a woman whose father was a serial killer. He had been dead for years and she had no idea about his past. Before she was born he had served years in prison for the murders of two young girls in a Welsh village. Decades later he is considered the prime suspect in the murders of multiple women in London.
Jehovah is purported to be our heavenly father, a loving, kind and benevolent parent who loves us all and wants for only our very best. The serial killer's daughter believed her father felt the same way. The reality is Jehovah (if you believe in him) is the most prolific serial killer in history; a God whose record of murder is second to none. Of course, his adherents will claim his killings are just and righteous; however what is righteous about the murder of babies, children, old people and innocent men and women whose only crime is to be uneducated, superstitious and naive?
The imagined ideal of a loving heavenly father underpins JW teaching; a wonderful dad who listens to everything you say and guides you through life with a caring touch. Yet, by his own admission, that father is a sadistic murderer, a God that will take your life and mine if we don't kowtow to his demands of absolute adoration and complete devotion. The woman in the BBC program tried to defend her dad, she didn't want to believe the evidence because she has an emotional bond to him, and rightly so. She isn't interested in the evidence because her dad didn't kill her or her siblings and so, logically, in her mind, he couldn't kill anyone else. But of course, you exchange family feelings for unbiased dispassion and the considered evidence becomes damming; just as it does in the case against Jehovah. In the bible, he is portrayed as a childish brat, desperate for recognition and quick to vent his rage against any that don't prostrate themselves before him in blind adoration. Just like the woman with a murderous parent, JW's refuse to see the vile nature of the being they serve. They excuse his viciousness by putting the blame on the victims, making them worthy of his rage and justifying his sickening lack of self-control.
If my father was a senseless murderer I would like to think I would never justify his actions. Sadly he prays for the day when his God will murder me.
