Fabrication? What Fabrication?
'Russian Authorities Fabricate Evidence to Charge Witnesses With Extremism'
The above is the headline on JW.ORG and relates to the threats by Russian Authorities to effectively ban the work of Jehovahs Witnesses in the country. I have openly critisised the charity status that the organisation enjoys around the world however I support their right to free speech and their right to worship without intimidation and persecution.
Russia, under President Putin, appears to be heading back to the bad old days of the cold war and JW's are just one of many groups suffering from the regimes draconian governance.
The headline made me wonder why the authorities would need to fabricate evidence to charge JW's with extremism. The definition of extremism is: the holding of extreme political or religious views; fanaticism:
Few would argue the following Witness beliefs are anything but extreme:
They expect their converts to die rather than accept a life-saving blood transfusion, in fact they even expect their children to be allowed to die rather than accept blood. This is probably the most well known example of their extreme views but it is far from the only one.
Despite anti-discrimination laws the Organisation refuses to accept anyone from the LBGT community unless they change their lifestyle. The religion believes that these people can change with Gods help - almost as if they have some sort of illness. They refuse to accept that they are born with their orientation, it is who they are.
The treatment of ex-Witnesses who either leave the religion or who are thrown out for 'unrepentance' is extreme to the maximum, cutting off all contact with family members and close friends, refusing to even talk to them if they pass in the street. This single belief has lead thousands to suicide and mental illness.
JW's are known for their complete acceptance of everything in the bible. This extreme view includes the 'two witness' rule when it comes to accusing a Witness of a crime. Because they enforced this rule they are now embroiled in numerous child abuse cases around the world and probably a lot more to come.
Witnesses firmly believe in Armageddon - the war when God will kill everyone who is not a JW. If that is not an extremist view what is?
JW's beliefs are extremist, to the point of life endangerment and even praying for global genocide. Fortunately we live in a society that tolerates such extremes whereas the Russians have a little less patience.
