Satan's World in Gods Mirror
If you have spent any time with Jehovahs Witnesses you will know their view of 'The World'. Put simply the 'World' is anything outside Jehovahs organisation or even simpler, anything not within Jehovahs Witnesses. The 'World' is Satan's domain, a Godless, evil place where everyone is on the side of the Devil. It is filled with immorality, greed, hate, alcoholism, drug abuse, marital breakdowns, liars, rapists, child abusers and every other terrible thing.
Of course they ignore the fact that most non-Witnesses are decent people - some are even incredible people who give their lives to help their fellow man. Of course there are bad people, those who murder, steal, abuse and prey yet there are far more that risk their lives to help others, give their time to charities, give their money to worthy causes and even turn their lives around without the help of 'Jehovah'.
I have listened with disgust to talks from the platform as Witness Elders have claimed the world has no manners, no empathy, no honesty and no faithfulness while they describe themselves as an organisation where love is their main attribute, their marriages are loving and faithful, they exhibit good manners and they have the greatest empathy for their fellow man.
Every convention has, what many of us call, the 'clapping' talk. The talk where the speaker is obliged to roll out all the 'positive' comments that people have made about the organisation in the local community. It is designed to highlight how 'different' Witnesses are to the 'World' and how only Jehovahs people can be truly 'good' people.
Even when I was a practising Witness these talks used to make me feel sick to my stomach because we all knew that they were simply ridiculous and cringeworthy.
In truth Jehovahs Witnesses have a similar divorce record to every other religion - and those bad marriages that do stay together within the organisation are in the main the ones that are too frightened of the consequences the elders will inflict upon them if they seek a divorce.
There are many 'good' Witnesses but there are also Witnesses who have been proven to be child abusers as well. As for empathy, when was the last time a Jehovahs Witness gave blood for their fellow man? Yet they are willing to accept blood fractions from donors and even body parts to save their lives!
Manners? I see people giving up their seats for the elderly and the disabled every day on the London underground system. I've seen complete strangers help blind people across the road, take lost children to find their parents and even observed teenagers going out of their way to help foreigners find their destination. I've personally experienced acts of kindness from strangers in cities all around the world.
I'm not saying JW's don't have good manners - most do. Not all though, just as not everyone who isn't a Witness shows good manners. Go to any Kingdom Hall and you will observe both good and selfish behaviour during every meeting.
The Organisation's own Governing Body display the most blatant dishonesty, attempting to excuse their own behaviour and that of some of their converts (see my previous blog) and yet they claim dishonesty is exclusive to the 'world'.
Far from being 'different' from the world, Witnesses mirror it - because they are part of it. Wearing nice suits and saying please and thank-you does not make you one of Gods people.
Being honest, owning up to your mistakes and dealing with them, apologising for the things you do wrong - these are the things you would expect from an organisation that is truly trying to find the right way to serve God. JW's don't ever accept their mistakes, they never apologise and they don't try to rectify the harm they have done to hundreds of thousands of people. If any organisation epitomises 'Satan's' world it is the Watchtower, Bible and Tract Society.
