Jehovah changes his mind - again






Quote from Awake April 22nd 1970 Page 8;

“...One of the reasons is that people are disturbed by what is happening in their churches. Yes, millions of persons have been shocked to learn that things they were taught as being vital for salvation are now considered by their church to be wrong. Have you too felt discouragement or even despair, because of what is happening in your church?

"...tell me, he asked, "How can I have confidence in anything? How can I believe in the Bible, God or have faith? Just ten years ago we Catholics had the absolute truth, we put all our faith in this. Now the Pope and the priests are telling us this is not the way to believe any more, but we are to believe new things. How do I know the ‘new things’ will be truth in 5 years?”

This is the JW's attacking another church for changing its teachings!

Yet the Governing Body openly admit to changing their beliefs and understandings scores of time on numerous subjects including; the end time generation, their stance on blood, disfellowshipping, the role of women in the organisation, worshipping Jesus, the superior authorities, etc, etc.

So if they criticise Catholics for making changes to doctrines and beliefs how do they justify doing it themselves?

By using the phrase:  'The light is getting brighter'.  They claim that the closer to Armageddon we get the more God reveals to them, hence the changes to their beliefs.

But then, on the other hand, they now say that they are NOT inspired by God so the new understandings are their own interpretations of the bible and each time they are proved wrong they change them under the guise of 'brighter light' whilst admitting that they have no light at all!

The problem with their 'brighter light' claim is that you never know if the current 'understanding' will be the same understanding tomorrow or next week, next month or next year.  The phrase 'the light is getting brighter' is, at best, a get out of jail free card, it means nothing more than: 'We have no idea but our best guess is..'

So when they criticise Catholics or any other religion for changing ideas, beliefs and doctrines they would do well to take a long hard look at the flip flops, about turns and tweaks of their own over the last 100 years.

Aerosmith and Us

I've recently joined an ex-JW Facebook group and some of the people who contribute to it have made me realise just what a journey it is leaving the Organisation.  As you read their experiences and their (often) open-hearted pleas I am constantly reminded that all of them, in some way or another, are echoing my own feelings and experiences. There is a lyric in the wonderful Aerosmith song 'Amazing' that says; Life's a journey not a destination .  It is a sentiment that until recently I never truly understood but now I realise that leaving a religion that has controlled and manipulated you for a lifetime is a journey that never really ends but it can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling if you allow it to be. What's the point of the Memorial?

It's memorial season again and most of us will get an invite.  To JW's it is viewed as the most important meeting of the year and effectively it is the only celebration that they actively encourage. Witnesses view the memorial as a celebration and as kids growing up in the 'truth' we were taught the significance of the emblems and the importance of the ransom sacrifice.  However, from being a youngster, I have always questioned the whole concept of both the memorial and (apostasy alert) more to the point, the reasoning behind Jesus ransom sacrifice.  Here is the basic premise of the memorial;  It's a formal ceremony that acknowledges the sacrifice of a perfect man, Jesus.
