Jehovahs Witnesses and the myth of happy families
Loyalty - that is the theme of the upcoming conventions of Jehovahs Witnesses. It’s ironic that the Governing Body are demanding loyalty whilst forcing their congregation members to be disloyal to their own families and friends.
There are hundreds of thousands of Witnesses who were born into the religion, they had it force fed to them every day during their formative years and then, in adulthood, they came to the conclusion that they didn’t believe what they had been taught.
They then had a choice - stay in an Organisation that they believe is wrong, following their rules and regulations, or leave. Most intelligent people will say they should leave - it’s obvious. But if you have been a Jehovahs Witness you know it’s not that easy because to leave usually means losing all of your friends and your family. Leaving automatically marks you as disloyal and the upcoming conventions are being used to ‘tighten the screw’. Witnesses are being told that they must have no association with ‘disloyal’ ones.
Yet how can you be disloyal if you were never given a choice in the first place?
It’s sad that the vast majority of Witnesses will obey this small committee of stupid men and even more families will be split apart.
We have to be loyal to Jehovah they will argue. Really? If Jehovah told them to murder all their non-believing family members would they do it? Of course they don’t have to because they believe he will do it for them at Armageddon!
By refusing to have any contact with our former friends and family we are demonstrating the seriousness of their position and maybe it will help them come back to Jehovah. It may seem harsh but it is actually loving. This is the party line that they are all taught to repeat in parrot fashion.
Why would a person who does not believe in the teachings of the religion want to return? The only reason would be to restore their relationship with their friends and family. So how is that loving? They have to belong to an organisation that they revile just to have contact with their own parents / children / siblings.
The real reason the Governing Body don’t want their members being in contact with former members is because they are frightened by the exodus of Witnesses from their congregations as more and more wake up to the realisation that this is a long way from the true religion. They know that many are leaving because former members are telling their friends and families about the things the Governing Body want to keep secret - the true extent of the child abuse cases within the Organisation, the fact that they were members of the United Nation for over ten years, the power struggles within the leadership, the organisational misogyny, the double standards that are rampant within the society.
Elders are now being told that, if it is necessary to protect the Organisation, withholding information should be regarded as acceptable within the guise of ‘theocratic warfare’. They believe the waves of child abuse court cases against the society and individuals within the congregations is an attack by Satan and thus theocratic warfare. As a result evidence from judicial committees is being destroyed to prevent it falling into the hands of the authorities. Elders are refusing to cooperate with the Police in some cases.
When will they wake up and realise this isn’t an attack from some mythical devil, it’s CHILD SEX ABUSE within their Organisation which their own rules and regulations have allowed to spiral out of control?
Yet another case is about to come to trial in the East of England and the Police are far from happy with the lack of cooperation from the Elders who knew of the situation but did nothing to bring the individual to the attention of the law and did nothing to help the victim.
Hopefully this case will again attract the attention of the worlds press and shine a spotlight on the squirming of the Organisation.
They purport to be a loving religion, a people who are loyal, honest and faithful. Many of the congregation members are just that but those that lead them are disloyal, manipulative, evasive, underhand and blind to their own frailties.
The theme for their district conventions should be - An apology to all the children we have failed. But this is an organisation that will never admit they were wrong. They always blame someone else rather than accept they got it wrong.
As for an apology - they have never apologised for anything - they are unlikely to start now.
