Who Really Are the Faithful and Discreet Slave?




Today I watched Governing Body member Geoffrey Jackson give evidence to the Australian Royal Commission that investigated child sexual abuse within Jehovahs Witnesses.  If you want absolute proof that Jehovahs Witnesses do not have the truth you should watch this deposition.

The Royal Commission barrister questions Mr Jackson on whether he believed that Jehovahs Witnesses are Gods spokespeople on earth.  His answer is astounding.  For those of you that don't watch the VT he claims that it would be 'quite presumptuous' to claim that!

As anyone who is or has been a JW will know, that is nothing but a lie.  Time and time again the Watchtower, Bible and Tract Society claim that God works through the Faithful and Discreet Slave class - The Governing Body.  Nowhere in their literature do they even hint that the Holy Spirit might be directing anyone else but them. 

The deposition is a long watch but it throws up some wonderful moments.  The Royal Commission clearly had the advantage of a very capable Bible scholar because they tie Mr Jackson in knots over issues as diverse as the Two Witness rule and the role of women as judges in the congregation.  They demonstrate with simple clarity that the Governing Bodies stance on these issues are totally unscriptual.  They also very pointedly prove that when it suits the Governing Body they conform their instructions to meet modern values and thinking - in this case they used the subject of corporal punishment of children - yet in areas that it doesn't suit they refuse to conform.

At this moment in time I am very close to a child abuse case within the organisation that will be coming to trial in the UK in the next few months.  Though admittedly I am only seeing one side of the argument I cannot believe the hostility and bile being directed towards the victim.  More than that I cannot understand the congregation elders who are doing their damnedest to impede the police investigation.

I listened to Mr Jackson claiming that the organisation had recognised changes needed to be made to procedures over the last twenty years and they had implemented measures to address their shortfalls and I felt nauseous.   They have done nothing whatsoever to help the victims of these vile crimes.

Remember Mr Jackson has been a Governing Body member for over ten years and then listen to him claim time after time that he 'doesn't know' the procedure for this and for that.  His favourite saying seems to be 'that is not my field of activity'.  This is a man who is part of the Governing Body - the very small group of men who run the organisation - and yet he pleads ignorance on almost every difficult question.  If he genuinely didn't know the answer to a question surely he could pray and the Holy Spirit would reveal it to him!!

In my next blog I will show why women CAN serve as Elders, despite the Governing Body's insistence that women are not acceptable to God as teachers and elders - and I thank the Australian Royal Commission for giving me the ammunition to shoot down these ridiculous teachings of Jehovahs Witnesses.

Aerosmith and Us

I've recently joined an ex-JW Facebook group and some of the people who contribute to it have made me realise just what a journey it is leaving the Organisation.  As you read their experiences and their (often) open-hearted pleas I am constantly reminded that all of them, in some way or another, are echoing my own feelings and experiences. What's the point of the Memorial?

It's memorial season again and most of us will get an invite.  To JW's it is viewed as the most important meeting of the year and effectively it is the only celebration that they actively encourage.
