About Time!





Okay there's no apology to the victims that suffered abuse as a result of their damaging 'two Witness' rule.  Okay they haven't even acknowledged that they were wrong to order the destruction of evidence from past judicial hearings relating to potential child abuse.  They haven't even admitted that the rules in the 'Shepherding the Flock' book were wrong even though they've asked all elders to redact the previous instructions.  They haven't even apologised for the terrible damage that they have done to the reputation of their religion and their Gods name over the past two decades because of their pigheaded refusal to accept that they were wrong.

However what they HAVE finally done is issued sensible, reasonable and intelligent instructions to their elders on how to deal with accusations of child abuse within their congregations.  Someone in their organisation has finally seen sense.  Would I be cynical if I suggested that it was very likely one of their legal team?

Whomever it was that finally realised the gravity of the situation, thank God that future generations of Witness children may now be spared the physical and emotional pain of sexual abuse by people they thought they could trust.   This is the link to the new instructions issued to elders yesterday (August 1st 2016);

I heard one Witness proudly explaining that there was 'new thought' on the 'two Witness' rule when it came to children.  She dismissed all the previous criticism of the organisation as if this new instruction somehow excused the scores of years where they have allowed abusers to escape punishment for their crimes.

It doesn't excuse anything, it is what they should have been doing anyway.

What this 'change of thought' demonstrates is just how far they are from being directed by 'Holy Spirit'.  If God really did direct them they would have either;

1. Had this sensible, intelligent guidance from day one.  

OR;

2. Carried on with their old stance that any accusation had to have two witnesses in order for it to be acted upon because the Holy Spirits guidance must be correct.

I applaud the change because of the protection it will provide to their children.  I ridicule the religion because it took decades of bad publicity, millions in law suits and even Governmental investigations into their handling of abuse cases before they received 'New Light'.

They received nothing but the realisation that if they didn't change their self-righteous stance they were liable to suffer more huge financial losses both in the American legal system and others around the world. 

This climbdown is more 'lighter funds' than 'brighter light.'

Aerosmith and Us

I've recently joined an ex-JW Facebook group and some of the people who contribute to it have made me realise just what a journey it is leaving the Organisation.  As you read their experiences and their (often) open-hearted pleas I am constantly reminded that all of them, in some way or another, are echoing my own feelings and experiences. There is a lyric in the wonderful Aerosmith song 'Amazing' that says; Life's a journey not a destination .  It is a sentiment that until recently I never truly understood but now I realise that leaving a religion that has controlled and manipulated you for a lifetime is a journey that never really ends but it can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling if you allow it to be. What's the point of the Memorial?

It's memorial season again and most of us will get an invite.  To JW's it is viewed as the most important meeting of the year and effectively it is the only celebration that they actively encourage. Witnesses view the memorial as a celebration and as kids growing up in the 'truth' we were taught the significance of the emblems and the importance of the ransom sacrifice.  However, from being a youngster, I have always questioned the whole concept of both the memorial and (apostasy alert) more to the point, the reasoning behind Jesus ransom sacrifice.  Here is the basic premise of the memorial;  It's a formal ceremony that acknowledges the sacrifice of a perfect man, Jesus.
