Betrayal of Love
Something struck me today. Something so obvious and yet so simple that it has been hidden in plain sight (in my case) for all my life. Being bought up as a JW you are taught from an early age that the theme of the bible and the whole purpose of the religion revolves around the issue of Universal Sovereignty. In simple terms it is Satan's challenge to God that He doesn't have the exclusive right to worship from all of mankind and man can govern themselves without Gods help.
But it is not true; that is not the issue at all. The issue is actually betrayal.
Here's the explanation; What is it that man is incapable of without Gods help?
Everlasting life? - No God apparently took that away from us because some distant relative of ours ate a fruit they were not supposed to touch. He didn't have to do that, he chose to.
Perfection? - He took that away at the same time.
The reality is that if you accept the Bible and specifically Witnesses version of it, God did the equivalent of 'taking his football home because he wanted to be the team Captain and the other boys said; no!'
If God is everlasting and all powerful then there cannot be any issue in regards to his sovereignty. It is not an intellectual debate because he would have to be accepted as the ultimate intellectual. It cannot be a power debate because he is the 'Almighty'. It cannot even be a popularity contest because Gods marketing team are far more successful at recruiting than the Devils bunch (though admittedly Gods marketing materials are very confusing!)
The real issue is that Satan, a son of God and an important one, defied his father and betrayed his position - (apparently).
My son could not walk into my business and demand that all my employees follow his orders. However he could start slandering me behind my back and encourage some to take strike action. If I had given my son a management position and he had done that to me, I would feel betrayed, but not threatened.
The Witnesses accuse those that leave the faith of 'betraying' Gods love and betraying his faithful and discreet slave. Judas is accused of betraying Jesus. Even Peter was depicted as betraying his master though he quickly repented.
Take a few moments to consider the bible and you may start to realise that the theme of the Scriptures is actually betrayal.
Satan, Adam and Eve, Cain, Korah, the sons of Eli, and many, many more, all are depicted as betrayers. So what is the biggest betrayal of all? Is it not the betrayal of love?
According to the bible God is love. So what can be stronger than family love? The love of a parent for a child, the love of a child for their parent? The love of a sibling? The love of close friends? The love of a husband for his wife or a wife for her husband?
And yet Jehovahs Witnesses actively encourage the betrayal of that love. They believe love to be conditional. Their members are allowed to love only those who accept the total authority of their organisation. This stance mirrors other cult like religions such as the Amish and Christian Scientists - religions who can only maintain their brainwashing through claims that those who have left the 'faith' will somehow damage the remaining followers if they are allowed any contact.
If a person comes to their senses and realises that many of the teachings and rules of Jehovah's Witnesses are not scriptural the Governing Body requires members to betray that love, cutting the individual off forever, unless they can be pressured to return to their brainwashed beliefs.

It is ironic that they cannot see that all the betrayals in the bible are classified as evil and 'of Satan' yet their organisation is riddled with betrayals of children, parents, friends and families on a daily basis as they operate their 'shunning' of people who have realised this is just another American cult religion with a dubious past and dubious practices.
Far from the portrayal of a religion that brings families together which the Governing Body likes to perpetuate, the reality is an organisation where betrayal of true love is a requirement and the destruction of families is a daily occurrence.
