A Murderous God

Jehovah God is a loving Father, so claim Jehovahs Witnesses.  He is a God of justice and the fruits of his Holy Spirit are perfect love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness and self-control.

So how does this description of God marry with the following from JW.ORG?;

JW.ORG: What will conditions be like during the battle of Armageddon? While we do not know how God will use his power, he will have at his disposal weapons such as those he has used in the past—hail, earthquake, flooding downpour, fire and sulfur, lightning, and disease. (Job 38:22, 23; Ezekiel 38:19, 22; Habakkuk 3:10, 11; Zechariah 14:12) In confusion, at least some of God’s enemies will kill each other, yet they will ultimately realise that it is God who is fighting against them.—Ezekiel 38:21, 23; Zechariah 14:13.

Most civilised countries have outlawed capital punishment because it is barbaric, even those that still retain it do their utmost to ensure that the sentence is carried out in a humane manner.  If God is all powerful and merciful why would he resort to the murder of those who don't actively accept his rule?  Even if a case could be made for the execution of non-Witnesses, why would a loving God resort to vile, agonising and terrifying ways of killing people?

We (humans) are supposedly made in Gods image, reflecting his qualities and yet we routinely put down sick animals using humane methods.  Even vicious dogs who have killed children are put down with compassion and a lack of pain. Is it not logical to expect the same kindness from a Heavenly Father figure?

In the end dead is dead - what purpose does it serve to cause that death by means of unnecessary pain and suffering?

Go to the Kingdom Halls, the assemblies and read the literature of JW's and you soon get the sense that not only are they looking forward to the prospect of the deaths of all who do not belong to their religion but the suffering as well.

Yet why?  Where is the love, peace, kindness, goodness or mildness?

Why would you want to serve a God who uses an 'array' of weapons to inflict pain and suffering as he kills people?

There are evil people who commit crimes that cause pain, suffering, terror and death. Today we use the courts and the supreme Courts to bring them to justice.  We don't stone them, drown them, incinerate them or crush them.  In fact when we hear of less developed societies inflicting these punishments it jars with our sense of justice.  To believe that God has an inferior sense of justice than his own creation is simply absurd.  How could anyone believe that a perfect being with unlimited experience would still resort to the infliction of unnecessary pain and suffering just because he can?  Surely this is an insult to God!

It seems to me that this version of Armageddon taught by the Witnesses reveals a great deal about their character and in fact a quick look through the imagery of their publications reveals this character trait as very worrying.

Far from the loving, peaceful, happy and neighbourly people they portray themselves as, they are in fact an organisation that revel in vengeance, pray for genocide and are as dark as the version of God that they serve.
