Homophobic Worksheets!!





JW.ORG are at it again! Once more they are teaching their young members the righteous benefits of homophobia, this time using worksheets for them to fill out!  When will some authority have the courage to prosecute them for hate crime?

This is their approach; 

“Bible standards are out-of-date!”  

BEFORE REPLYING, CONSIDER: Sometimes when people say that the Bible is out-of-date, what they really mean is that its standards differ from theirs. Do you think the person you’re talking with feels that all Bible standards are outdated—including its prohibition of theft, adultery, and murder? —Romans 13:8-10

Here they are suggesting that homosexuality is equivalent to being a thief, a murderer or cheating on a marriage partner.  Remember this is an organisation that has protected child abusers for decades!
The next worksheet is no better.

“Homosexuals can’t change the way they are—they were born that way.”

BEFORE REPLYING, CONSIDER: Bible doesn’t say whether homosexual desires are inherited or not. So instead of debating the cause of homosexuality, focus on the conduct. Think of a comparison. What other kinds of conduct can be deeply ingrained? For example, Proverbs 29:22 says that some people are “prone to anger” and “disposed to rage.” The apostle Paul even said about himself: “When I wish to do what is right, what is bad is present with me.” (Romans 7:21) Must we always act on the urges that we feel?

So homosexuality is now equivalent to anger and rage?  I don't know that many gay men or women but the ones I do know are in the main very gentle, outgoing and genuinely decent people.  I know people for whom lying is deeply ingrained in their psyche.  I know men who treat woman like sex objects for their own gratification.  I know lots of people who wish they could improve themselves, including me. The vast majority of us CAN change because we want to and indeed change would make us better people.  However, in my experience, homosexuality is no more possible to change than hetrosexuality and as I have never heard of a hetrosexual that wanted to change why would a homosexual - it wouldn't make you a better person.  

“You should change your view of homosexuality.”

BEFORE REPLYING, CONSIDER: Might it be that the person has a friend or relative who is gay or lesbian? Does the person think that rejecting what someone practices makes you reject him or her as an individual? Does the person really understand your view of homosexuality? Also: Are others being tolerant if they expect you to change your view to match theirs?

Oh here we go again - 'we don't hate the person, just the disgusting thing that they do!'  Yes Witnesses do hate the person because they want them to die at Armageddon if they don't conform to Witness beliefs and change from a homosexual to... well anything else.  And how dare Witnesses even bring up the subject of tolerance?  They are the most intolerant religion in the Western world! You only have to read the JW.ORG article; Explaining Your Beliefs About Homosexuality, which is the sole source of this blog, to realise the extent of their intolerant beliefs.

Aerosmith and Us

I've recently joined an ex-JW Facebook group and some of the people who contribute to it have made me realise just what a journey it is leaving the Organisation.  As you read their experiences and their (often) open-hearted pleas I am constantly reminded that all of them, in some way or another, are echoing my own feelings and experiences. There is a lyric in the wonderful Aerosmith song 'Amazing' that says; Life's a journey not a destination .  It is a sentiment that until recently I never truly understood but now I realise that leaving a religion that has controlled and manipulated you for a lifetime is a journey that never really ends but it can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling if you allow it to be. What's the point of the Memorial?

It's memorial season again and most of us will get an invite.  To JW's it is viewed as the most important meeting of the year and effectively it is the only celebration that they actively encourage. Witnesses view the memorial as a celebration and as kids growing up in the 'truth' we were taught the significance of the emblems and the importance of the ransom sacrifice.  However, from being a youngster, I have always questioned the whole concept of both the memorial and (apostasy alert) more to the point, the reasoning behind Jesus ransom sacrifice.  Here is the basic premise of the memorial;  It's a formal ceremony that acknowledges the sacrifice of a perfect man, Jesus.
