The Devils Wry Smile

JW.ORG How God Offers Comfort
The apostle Paul describes Jehovah * as “the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials.” (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4) Thus the Bible assures us that no person is beyond God’s help and that no tragedy is so great that our heavenly Father cannot comfort us.

A friend of mine who is still a Witness confided that he doesn't want Armageddon to come.  His confession surprised and intrigued me.

He explained; 'When everyone at the Kingdom Hall is clapping because the brother on the platform is telling us Armageddon is right in front of us I want to cry, not clap.  When it comes it isn't just worldly strangers that will die, it's my daughters as well! Why would I clap the imminent deaths of my lovely girls.  I've tried to convince them that they need to become Witnesses but they won't take me seriously.  The problem is, when I was younger I was a bit of a bad lad and now I've got the 'Truth' they think I've been brainwashed or something.'

Earlier today I came across the above article on JW.ORG and the obvious question sprang from the ether;  How will God comfort my friend when He (Jehovah) murders his daughters at Armageddon?  What help will this Heavenly Father provide to ease my friend through the pain and grief He causes?

Grief and tragedy affect us all at some points in our lives and Witnesses will have you believe that we can only receive comfort if we believe in God (in fact not just any God but their version of Him).
This comfort comes in the form of a resurrection hope - a hope that isn't on offer to my friends two daughters - so the bibles assurance that 'no person is beyond God’s help and that no tragedy is so great that our heavenly Father cannot comfort us' is wrong.

'Yes but Jehovah will make him forget his daughters and therefore he won't feel the pain of loss.  Jehovah will provide him with joy and peace as a reward for his loyalty.' Witnesses will argue.
So basically God's answer is to give my friend a form of dementia!  Wouldn't the loving, merciful and just solution be to not murder them in the first place?  They don't believe in God, they are not interested in religion, are they committing crimes?   Are their beliefs so vile that they must lose their lives?

'There are only two sides, Jehovah's and Satan's, everyone must choose which one they are on and if you are not on God's then you are part of Satan's world who must be removed in order for God's will to be accomplished.' Spout the Governing Body.  Why?

If God got rid of all sickness, death, suffering and evil wouldn't the vast majority of people sit up, take notice of him and join his side voluntarily?  Many people (including me) doubt his existence, however that view would have to change if he revealed himself properly and then the choice between God and the Devil or Good and Evil would make sense.  As it is we are presented with a book full of contradictions, a million interpretations and each one insisting the evidence proves that they have all the answers.

And what of the Devil?  If he really existed why would he just accept the negative view that the bible portrays him in?  Surely it would be in his interest to reveal himself and create some positive publicity.   After all he doesn't threaten to murder you if you don't accept his authority.  He doesn't punish generation after generation for the sins of the great-great grandparents.  He doesn't even want you to chant meaningless platitudes towards him every single day.

Or... maybe there is a glint in his eye when a Kingdom Hall full of Jehovahs Witnesses enthusiastically clap at the prospect of death, destruction and misery on a world wide scale.
