The Gay Cure

JW.ORG  - Young People Ask: Is Homosexuality Wrong?

Attitudes about homosexuality may vary from one culture to the next or from one time period to another. But Christians aren’t governed by popular opinion or “carried here and there by every wind of teaching.” (Ephesians 4:14) Instead, they base their view of homosexual conduct (and any other kind of conduct, for that matter) on the standards set forth in the Bible.

Really!  Jehovah's Witnesses don't have any interest in modern thinking and cultural enlightenment, preferring instead to base their views on the instructions of men from over two thousand years ago who lived in tents and caves.  This article is aimed at children and teenagers and makes claims such as homosexuals can change if they 'arm themselves with a good spiritual routine of bible study and prayer'.

Seriously, why don't they just call it an illness and the JW religion the cure!?

Later in the article they say;

But what if someone currently practices homosexuality? Can that person change?
Yes. In fact, some in the first century did so! After stating that those who practice homosexuality will not inherit God’s Kingdom, the Bible says: “That is what some of you were.”—1 Corinthians 6:11.

Now just take a moment to think about that comment.  Personally I am very definitely heterosexual. Could I change?  Could I make myself homosexual?  Not a chance.  The thought of sharing a bed with a man is both unnatural and unpleasant to me.  But a homosexual man feels the same at the thought of sharing a bed with a woman - that is precisely how gay friends have described it to me. You are what you are and if you are born with an attraction to the same sex no amount of religious claptrap is going to change it.

During my time in the Witnesses I became friends with three 'brothers' who were clearly gay.  All three eventually left the religion because they could not continue to deny who they really were.  I am sure I knew many more who hid their identity out of fear.

The article makes no reference to the fact that homosexuals are human, designed (according to JW's) by God and they make no reference to the fact that it is even a common practice in the animal kingdom.  If God created certain people to have these feelings why would he condemn them?
Of course Witnesses maintain that they have these feelings as a result of mans imperfection.  My reply is; Are animals imperfect?  Have they sinned and lost Gods love?  Of course not yet the same percentage of animals display homosexual tendencies as humans.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.

The self-important rhetoric of the comment '...Christians aren’t governed by popular opinion or carried here and there by every wind of teaching' is a joke.  Jehovahs Witnesses teachings change almost by the week, in fact the regular changes to their doctrines and beliefs has become laughable and worthy of the ridicule directed at them by independent observers.

The bible does say very clearly that homosexuality is wrong.  It also says that children and animals must be put to death in tribes that oppose the Israelites from forcibly taking their land.  It describes the murder of everyone on the planet by God, except for Noah and his family, as a righteous and justifiable act.   It condones the practice of polygamy as long as Jehovah likes you.  It orders the
death of all but the virgins of a tribe and the virgins they were to keep for their own use!

And of course there is more, much, much more but the conclusion is; Not everything in the bible is right.  In fact much of it is wrong - not just by popular opinion, not even by the winds of teachings - but by measuring it against simple decency.
