Just Tell the Truth About the 'truth'.
Recently two young women have died in Canada because they refused to have blood transfusions after they haemorrhaged during childbirth. It is national news in Canada and, as you can imagine, many ex-JW sites are also headlining it.
The problem is, so many of these ex-Witness sites are making claims that are simply not true and, as a result, all of us who are trying to show the religion up for what they really are lose credibility with Witnesses who are wavering in their beliefs.
I read one websites interpretation of the events and it made me cringe. They portrayed the Hospital Liaison Committees as some sort of death squad, forcing JW's to refuse blood and preventing their relatives from contacting them whilst they fought for their lives in hospital.
This is utter rubbish.
JW Hospital Liaison Committees are JW elders trained by the Governing Body to make Hospital Management and surgeons aware of Witnesses stance on blood and to act as representatives for congregation members who are facing the prospect of a blood transfusion being recommended as a result of an operation, illness or accident.
They are not - and I cannot stress this enough - they are definitely NOT death squads. They are elders, often with limited education but far from stupid, who are tasked with the job of explaining in detail the Governing Bodies stance on blood transfusions to people who are normally highly educated, very understanding and privately very sceptical.
To portray them as evil, heartless men who want their charge to die as a martyr is simply ridiculous.
Foolish. misguided and naive is a far more accurate description.
I am not defending the Governing Body, nor am I in any way excusing their stance on blood transfusions. Far from it, in fact their teachings are the cause of thousands of unnecessary deaths, including those of the two young women I mentioned earlier in Canada.
Of course they won't accept that statement because they refuse to believe that anyone could be saved by a blood transfusion - according to them, there is no proof that anyone has been saved by one! As I said earlier, they can be accused of being misguided, foolish and naive which is born out by this claim.
JW.ORG - What Does the Bible Say About Blood Transfusions:
- Acts 15:20. “
Abstain . . . from blood.
” God gave Christians the same command that he had given to Noah. History shows that early Christians refused to consume whole blood or even to use it for medical reasons.
This is an interesting quote from JW's own website because for the first time (as far as I am aware) Witnesses are claiming that the Apostle Paul's words are not only linked to consumption but also to medicine. I have tried to verify this, however I cannot find ANY medical practices from ancient Rome that involved the use of infusing blood.
What I can find are numerous references to the sanctity of life, which is far more logical - why would God consider refusing a life saving blood transfusion more sacred than saving the life?
Witnesses claim that their two 'sisters' who died in childbirth, as a result of refusing a lifesaving blood transfusion, have displayed loyalty to Jehovah and will therefore receive the reward of everlasting life. So now their children grow up without their natural mother because of her 'loyalty'. What happens if that child rejects the teachings of JW's when he or she reaches adulthood? Will they then die at Armageddon or will they survive because of the ultimate sacrifice their mother made?
According to JW's the children of those dead women will die at Armageddon unless they show faith in Jesus ransom sacrifice and worship Jehovah. That hardly seems a just reward for mother or child - especially from a God who claims 'perfect justice'.
There is no need to portray JW's or the Governing Body in a way that isn't based upon reality because they are perfectly capable of tripping themselves up and making themselves appear foolish. Those of us who are trying to expose the truth about this organisation simply need to point out the glaring irregularities in their teachings and in their actions to make our point.
