When Victims Become Victims Again.

Today is the fiftieth anniversary of the Aberfan disaster in which 144 people died, 116 of them children between the ages of 7 and 10, when a huge, manmade mountain of coal waste buried a school and houses in the little Welsh village.  It was one of the single most horrific disasters in post war British History, made all the worse by the tragic loss of so many very young lives.

At 9.15am in the morning those children and their teachers were starting the last school day before the half term holiday.  Eye witnesses describe a roaring sound like that of a jet engine as the huge slag heap began to collapse.  Beneath it one of the teachers told the children in his class not to worry, the sound was only thunder he reassured them.  Seconds later one hundred and fifty thousand tonnes of mud and slurry engulfed the building, burying teachers and children in seconds.

Today the people of Aberfan, especially the families of those killed in the avalanche, still bare the pain of that loss and also the anger at what happened afterwards.  Nobody was ever held accountable for that pointless and awful loss of life despite the fact that the Coal Board had been warned on a number of occasions of the dangers their waste mountain presented to the village.

Those bereaved families wanted justice, they wanted the people responsible for the deaths of their sons and daughters to be held accountable for their negligence, yet it never happened.

However, according to Jehovahs Witnesses, a far greater injustice is soon to occur for those parents and siblings of the Aberfan victims.  At Armageddon, which JW's insist is almost upon us, the surviving relatives of those dead children will all be destroyed by God because of their failure to listen to the Kingdom Message.  However, all the dead children will be resurrected because they have already died and so their sins are forgiven.

So you have a situation where the grieving families are murdered and the victims are resurrected to a world that doesn't include their mums and dads, brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts.

Where is the justice, the logic, the love and even the sense in that?

Of course it's rubbish but still, that's what Jehovahs Witnesses believe and hope for!
