No Fun Please we're JW's!
The latest JW.ORG has an article entitled; The Truth About Halloween
It explains the origins of the celebration and links it to witchcraft, supernatural spirits, the occult and of course their old favourite paganism. The article then goes on to use their interpretation of the bible to condemn the tradition:
"There must never be anyone among you who . . . practices divination, who is soothsayer, augur or sorcerer, who uses charms, consults ghosts or spirits, or calls up the dead.”—Deuteronomy 18:10, 11
What Jehovahs Witnesses and their Governing Body never really appreciate is that everything is linked but everything changes. To illustrate just consider the atomic bomb. It was designed by the Americans and used on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki in an attempt to force the surrender of Japan in the second world war. It was a vile, evil weapon that not only killed tens of thousands at the time but also caused pain, suffering and death to hundreds of thousands of innocent people for many years after. Yet the atom bomb launched the technology for nuclear energy. Would we refuse to heat our house with energy from a nuclear power station because it had some distant link to bombs dropped on Japan? Of course not. One might be linked to the other but the focus has changed entirely.
Halloween isn't a celebration of the dead anymore even if it has some link to the occult, today it's simply a reason to have a little fun, especially with our children. Witnesses want to, in fact are determined, to see evil and Satan in anything and everything. They have lost the ability to take things at face value and just enjoy life. They would rather see Satan's hand in every celebration and piously steal the fun out of everything.
Birthdays are the same. In the bible two birthdays are mentioned and in both someone loses their life. Witness logic leads to the conclusion that birthday celebrations must be wrong and unacceptable to Jehovah. Why? If the bible mentioned horses on two occasions and on each of them someone was murdered while riding them would we automatically assume that horse riding was evil?
This blind acceptance by rank and file Witnesses of the Governing Body's dictates always bemused and disturbed me. The women in the organisation throw baby showers for pregnant members. When the baby is born they gift greeting cards, money and presents. If that isn't a celebration of a birth what is? And they are right to do it, it is a time to celebrate. So why one year later do they make a fuss of the child's age but refuse to let themselves actually celebrate it? If they do will someone be beheaded?
Witness beliefs, in the main, defy any logic or common sense. They seem to desire the role of outcasts and weirdo's as if this somehow makes them more righteous, more important than the rest of the world. And that is the point - WE are all considered to be the 'World' while THEY are God ordained and led by Christ because they refuse to participate in anything that may have any connection with anything ungodly. Except this is a religion who's early iconography openly used Freemasonry symbols. Witness men handshake at every opportunity yet this is an ancient Egyptian custom where a god hands power to a human ruler.
In Western countries particularly it is a requirement that all Witness men wear a neck tie, especially if they are giving instruction from the platform. The origin of the neck tie is widely accepted as being from Croatian mercenaries employed by Louis XIII.
Witnesses believe everything their Governing Body tell them even when it makes no sense. Their own God is said to have introduced celebrations for the Israelites. What do Witnesses celebrate: The death of Jesus! Where is the fun and exuberance that God intended? Why is it that they have to demonise everything rather than realise that some distant link has no relationship with what is celebrated today?
